Job Description

Position Overview:

The Associate, Girls’ Education Program (GEP) will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Room to Read’s GEP program in direct supervision of Officer, GEP. The Associate will be involved in implementing and monitoring of Enhanced GEP program.  She will be constantly engaged in working to improve the GEP program by engaging Schools, Teachers, Communities and GEP girls with the aim of ensuring that Room to Read’s GEP program is being  effectively operated.  This position requires skills in planning, implementing project activities, program documentation,   report writing, networking with students and teachers, identifying potential partners, and book keeping, accounting and some office administration knowledge. The Associate will also supervise the GEP Staff (Social Mobilizer) of the district. The incumbent will also spend about 25-30 percent of time doing administrative & finance and Global Solution Database (GSD) related work. The Associate will report to the Officer in terms of program, Administration Manager and Finance Manager for admin and financial part and coordinates with Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (RM&E) Manager and Data Entry Associate for GSD part.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The position will require performing the below given job responsibilities not limited to:
Development & Planning:

  • Manage and oversee the GEP girls in project district for quality outcome.
  • Actively participate in annual planning and budgeting supporting supervisor.

Implementation:

  • Technically support the Social Mobilizers who are assigned to the Associate for implementation of all the programs- life skills, mentoring, material support and Family, school and community engagement.
  • Supervise and support SMs to conduct Life skill sessions to GEP girls based on grade-wise life skill manuals, in some case Associate will also conduct these sessions.
  • Ensure proper documentation, filling out of the monitoring tool, collecting data for Program Implementation Monitoring (PIM) etc. and keeping all these data for any other references.
  • Conduct regular interaction and meetings with the GEP girls to ensure that Enhanced GEP program is running well and girls are performing well in their studies.
  • Jointly conduct different awareness programs in the project district with District Education Office (DEO), schools and any other organizations etc.
  • Do survey of the GEP girls, rank them and provide material support to the neediest girls in a timely and effective manner.
  • Coordinate with the Officer in a timely manner to effectively support the girls.
  • Supervise the GEP Social Mobilizers in project district in coordination with the Officer/Manager.
  • Assist the coordination committee of Field Office (comprising of senior officers, officers, senior associates & associates) to do administration and finance work of Field Office in coordination with Kathmandu Office Administration.
  • Build capacity of the Social Mobilizers, teachers and other relevant stakeholders through regular trainings and refresher trainings.
  • Participate actively in capacity building trainings for self-professional development.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Assist in GSD data entry in coordination with Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Manager & Data Entry Associate of Kathmandu Office.

Networking and Advocacy:

  • Initiate meeting with Teachers, girl’s parents and district level government offices/officials regularly for effective implementation of the program.
  • Represent Room to Read at relevant meetings and occasionally assist in hosting key donor visits.

Reporting:

  • Prepare case studies of girls in close coordination with Officer /Manager in Kathmandu.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports and submit to the supervisor.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university of recognized standing with course work in Sociology, Women’s Studies, Education is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional working experience with students. Working knowledge with girl students and scholarship program will be an added value.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current developments in gender issues, especially in the government schools will be an added value.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills in implementing project activities, program documentation, report writing, networking, conducting large meetings and book keeping.
  • Working knowledge of office administration and finance will be an added value
  • Knowledge of different office software.
  • Proven track record of achieving results.
  • Ability to travel frequently to districts throughout the country.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English & Nepali.
