Job Description

Reports to: Vice Principal (Head of Elementary School) and Elementary School Coordinator

Qualification, Skills and Aptitude

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree,
  • A minimum of three years of work experience instructing dance classes as a lead instructor,
  • Ability to plan, organize and lead dance program and expand on the dance curriculum,
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills in traditional Nepali Dance as well as ballet, tap, modern techniques and styles,
  • A team player who believes in collaborative working style,
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office is a must.
  • Needs to have artistic ability and creativity to express ideas through movement.

Main Purpose of Job

Dance and Movement Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, leading, supervising and implementing individual and/or group performances of students. They Coach teaches students a variety of dance styles and techniques using a variety of methods, from demonstration to verbal direction.

Academic Responsibilities

  • Plan, lead and execute all dance and movement classes and create dances or interpretations of existing dances,
  • Make sure to have music and agenda for each class,
  • Demonstrate dance moves in order to instruct dancers in the proper technique,
  • Study new and emerging types of dance to design more creative dance routines,
  • Use age appropriate language and music to teach class, keeping a positive attitude,
  • Use appropriate classroom management skills to maintain control of the class,
  • Provide a safe environment for their students, both physically and emotionally,
  • Remain in communication with coordinators/supervisors including checking email daily,
  • Utilize organizational skills to stay prompt in deadlines to coordinator/supervisor,
  • Communicate effectively with parents on expectations and upcoming performances,
  • Monitor the progress of students and vary instruction to meet the needs of individual students,
  • Evaluate each student’s performance and prepare progress reports,
  • Communicate with parents and Level Coordinators on student progress,
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after-school dance club,
  • Check the attendance of students at lessons and follow up on what they are doing as all as on the quality of class work, homework and any other course work,
  • Maintain up-to-date records and forward lesson plans for approval to the ESC Coordinator,
  • Under the guidance and with approval from the Vice Principal (HofES -Head of Elementary School) and Elementary School Coordinator (ESC) syllabuses and contribute to the design, evaluation and development of departmental and/or annual curriculum schemes of work and policy.

Non-Academic Responsibilities

  • Remain in communication with coordinators/supervisors including checking email daily,
  • Assist with costume design, lighting, and other artistic aspects of a show,
  • Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection,
  • Continue his or her professional development to maintain an understanding of current dance trends and techniques.
  • Attend assemblies, meetings, parent events, presentations including on weekends as required,
  • Maintain cordial relation and communication with other school staff members.
