Job Description

ActionAid is a global justice federation working to achieve social justice, gender equality and poverty eradication. ActionAid International Nepal (AAIN) is a member of the federation, working for human rights, anti-poverty and gender equality. It is a non-governmental social justice organisation established in 1982 and working locally in different provinces of Nepal. It is also a part of both national and global social justice movement and other civil society networks, alliances and coalitions. AAIN is seeking competent, committed and result-oriented candidates for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Humanitarian Specialist [Grade 7- Manager/Specialist category] position. S/he is responsible to conceptualise, plan and manage initiatives to promote resilience against disasters; and ensure humanitarian response in case of any emergency to contribute to the overall organisational mission to achieve social justice, gender equality and poverty eradication in line with AAIN's Strategy 2023.

Job Role

Conceptualise, plan and manage initiatives to promote resilience against disasters; and ensure humanitarian response in case of any emergency to contribute to the overall organisational mission to achieve social justice, gender equality and poverty eradication in line with AAIN's Strategy 2023.

As an extended management team (EMT) member, this position is also responsible to lead or contribute to the following institutional priorities as per the requirements of AAIN:

  • Human right based approach (HRBA)
  • ActionAid’s Humanitarian Signature
  • Feminist Leadership
  • Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse (SHEA) & Safeguarding (including Child Safeguarding)
  • Behavioural change approach (BCA)
  • Safety and Security

Education & Certifications

  • A Master’s degree in Social Science/ Development studies or any other relevant degrees from a recognized University
  • Training in Project planning and management, Human Rights Based Approach, Participatory approaches and methodologies, Governance, Civic empowerment and accountability, Monitoring and Evaluation

Essential Experience

  • At least 5-6 year’s work experience in related field in similar role and similar organization
  • Experience of working in multi-cultural environment

Essential Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of development and human right issues in the country
  • Sound and up to date knowledge of development concepts, methodologies
  • Sound knowledge in the political, social, economic and historic environment in which ActionAid’s poverty alleviation programmes are operating

Language proficiency

  • Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) in both English and Nepali

Essential Skills

  • Excellent people/interpersonal skills including listening, communication, coordination, collaboration and influencing
  • Proven self/people management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under reasonable pressure, deadlines, and multiple priorities
  • Expert in analysing data and translating them into easily understandable user-friendly information
