Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the WFP Nepal Country Director, the DCD/Head of Programme and the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (M&E), the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Assist with the preparation of publications and reports, including gathering information written in Nepalese, analyzing Nepalese data and summarizing important information;
  • Complete high quality translation of short reports, press releases, longer publications, presentations, guidelines, training materials and letters from English to Nepalese for external or internal dissemination;
  • Translate Nepalese written reports, newspaper articles and other tests into English from Nepalese for internal purposes;
  • Manage translation process from beginning to end including facilitation of feedback and revision to ensure that the final product is of a high standard;

  • Provide support to the M&E team to design, conduct and disseminate case study reports on WFP’s programme impact (CP and Productive safety net)/and also on issues raised in the monitoring reports;
  • Play supportive role to report officer especially on drafting and compiling narrative sections of HQ/OMB and any other report;
  • Compile draft reports and correspond with RB as per the requirement in absences of reports officer;
  • Assist drafting M&E reports as and when required;
  • Perform any other duties as required.

  • Review requests for cash requirements and initiate remittance action through the WFP Information Systems; draft correspondence pertaining to subsidy and commodity cash requirements to country offices;
  • Prepare periodic projections of commodity requirements/commitments by project and by country based on incoming data from country and regional offices and input data into the WFP Information Systems;
  • Review incoming documentation, identify cargo losses and draft submission to Insurers/Carriers, based on support documents;
  • Review and reconcile a variety of financial and operational reports;
  • Monitor accruals and deposits into banks and approval and utilization of WFP generated funds;
  • Analyse and process requests for a variety of data;
  • Using WFP’s Information Systems, enter new and revised data such as new estimates/budget revisions, insurance claims, funding requests and cost information;
  • Monitor ongoing shipments, pipeline information, insurance claims and other data;
  • Prepare periodic reports, statistical information and tables;
  • Liaise with other units to resolve issues and clarify or obtain additional information;
  • Assist in conducting training of field staff on commodity management, as necessary;
  • Maintain accurate records and files within the field of work;
  • Draft correspondence related to the field of work;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

Job Specification

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Secondary school education, preferably supplemented by courses in a field related to WFP programmatic activities.
  • Experience: At least four years of progressively responsible support or secretarial work experience including at least two years in the field of accounting, transport, insurance, statistics, operations or other related field.
  • Knowledge: Experience utilising computers including word processing, spreadsheet and other software packages.  
  • Language Fluency in both spoken and written English and Nepali language.
  • Desirable skills:  Training and/or experience using other WFP software; knowledge of WFP financial regulations and rules, and WFP policies and procedures in the area of work. Fluency in Nepali typing is required.
  • Expected Results: Processing of work and related follow up done under general supervision. Use of own discretion to address unforeseen situations seeking advice from and/or reporting to supervisor as applicable.
  • Critical Success Factors: Ability to spell and write correctly in English; ability to maintain accurate and precise records and to interpret and analyse a variety of data and resolve discrepancies. Ability to work accurately and systematically; to identify and resolve data discrepancies and operational problems. Ability to perform detailed work and to handle a large volume of work quickly and accurately under time constraints. Courtesy, tact and the ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural background.
