Possible is seeking a Kathmandu Operations Manager who will run our organization's operations in the nation's capital.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial leader who will run our operations activities in Kathmandu. The ideal candidate will be a have excellent problem solving skills, be a fantastic communicator, and enjoy developing relationships with external partners.  Strong preference will be given to those who can prove they can operate in fast-growth environments with limited resources.

Must-haves:

  1. Communications savvy: We need you to be great at communicating both in Nepali and English. Communication skills are required for in person and digital communications and workflow.

  2. Grit: If building health care systems for the poor were easy, everyone would do it. We need you to be doing this work precisely because it is labeled as “impossible” by many. That takes an indomitable spirit, and passion and perseverance for long-term goals.

  3. Willingness to travel within Nepal:You will be in Kathmandu at least 90% of the time, but we want to make sure you are committed to trips to the far Western region to see our work in Achham and interface with vendors as necessary.

Big 3 Responsibilities

 The KTM Operations Manager will be the primary employee of the Operations department based in Kathmandu. The role oversees all functions within Operations that are based in Kathmandu, and will act in a supportive capacity to ongoing Operations functions in Achham, Dolakha, and/or other areas of expansion throughout Nepal. This person will work closely with the Governance & Partnership (G&P) team as well as the Finance Director, both of whom will be primarily Kathmandu-based, to envision and coordinate Possible activities at a national level. Their big three responsibilities include:

1)    Lead and oversee all procurement functions within Kathmandu, Dhangadi, and Patlia.

2)    Lead and oversee all logistics needs for staff, affiliates and donors visiting Kathmandu

3)    Lead and oversee all facilities functions within Kathmandu.

 

Areas of Responsibility (AoRs):

1) Lead and oversee all procurement functions within Kathmandu.

  1. Coordinate all domestic procurement via KTM including ongoing relationship management with pharmaceutical companies, supply stores, lab and other equipment maintenance companies, and all KTM-based purchasing.

  2. Coordinate all international procurement coming into Nepal including management of customs processes, coordination with international partners in collaboration with other members of the Possible team, and subsequent coordination of shipping / delivery to other sites within Nepal.

  3. Coordinate all supply chain and procurement functions with all relevant government centers and divisions within the Department of Health Services, including Logistics Management Division, NCASC, National TB Center, Family Health Division, Epi and Disease Control Division, National Public Health Laboratory, and other facilities Possible is to develop relationships with in the future.

  4. Potential intermittent travel to Dhangadi and to Patlia for the purposes of release and coordination of government and private sector goods.

  5. Lead coordination and execution of all customs procurement processes for release of international goods.

 2) Lead and oversee all logistics needs for staff, affiliates and donors visiting Kathmandu

  1. Lead coordination and hosting of donor visits to KTM including ensuring all details from airport pick-up, accommodations, fooding, transportation, visa provision, and in-country travel. Site visits to Achham, Dolakha, or other implementation sites will be in collaboration with local staff though KTM Operations Manager will still play a leading role in logistics support. Note that on certain visits the Governance and Partnerships team will lead these visits and selection of visits for Operations Manager to lead will be at their discretion.

  2. Work with all Possible staff and/or visitors to ensure they have access to resources necessary to ensure their ability to work effectively and live comfortably while in KTM. This includes provision of appropriate technology including mobile phones, SIM cards, and EVDO/mobile internet devices, as well assistance with coordination of daily activities throughout KTM.

  3. Lead coordination of work visas and medical licenses for international staff

  4. Purchase all flights for Possible staff, donors, and collaborators’ travel.

3) Lead and oversee all facilities functions in Kathmandu

  1. Lead research process and execution on identification of new in-kind or low-cost, high-quality office space in KTM for minimum 6 full-time KTM-based employees. 

  2. Lead research process and execution on identification of new in-kind or low-cost, high-quality accommodations for non-KTM-based Possible staff.

  3. Ensure ongoing maintenance of office, accommodations, and other facilities in KTM region including assurance of electricity, clean water, cooking facilities, high-quality internet

 

Location:

90% of time will be spent in Possible’s office in Kathmandu. 10% of time will be spent making trips to Dhanghadi, Achham and other parts of far Western Nepal to coordinate procurement logistics as necessary.
