Job Description

LOCATION: NEPAL

CONTRACT TYPE: One year fixed term contract based in Gorkha and Dhading.

Background

Oxfam are responding to the April 25 and May 12 earthquakes in 7 of the 14 most affected districts. Almost 9,000 people died, over 22,000 people were wounded and over 880,000 houses were partly or completely destroyed; access to water and sanitation, food security and livelihood have been affected for some 8.1 Million people, whilst 1.5 to 2 Million among them are in need of humanitarian assistance. 

 

The role

  • To organise all logistics processes, including purchasing, warehousing, communications and transport, as well as the related administrative procedures, for Oxfam operations.
  • To establish and maintain good contacts with suppliers, government offices, UN agencies and other NGOs with regards to logistical matters.
  • To oversee the management of procurement of items based on authorized requisitions, in line with Oxfam procedures.
  • To liaise closely with the Administrator/Finance Officer, as well as the Project  Manager and programme department, on local/international   procurement by maintaining a requisition tracking system.
  • To oversee the regulation of the use of vehicles and communications equipment.
  • To ensure that the Oxfam logistics systems, procedures and working practices are effectively implemented.

The Person

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • Qualifications and/or extensive experience in: purchasing, warehousing, vehicle management, administration, team support, security and communications. Minimum 5 years of experience working in humanitarian programmes in Logistics Management is required for the position.
  • Flexibility under pressure and in response to changing needs.
  • Attention to detail and excellent numeracy.
