Job Description

United Mission to Nepal. (UMN) is an international. development organisation which strives to serve the people of Nepal. by addressing root causes of poverty so that people can enjoy life in all its fullness. Multicultural teams of Nepali and volunteer expatriate staff work alongside local organisations in ten districts of the country, building partnerships that lead to healthy, dignified and empowered individuals, families, and transformed communities.

Following the devastating earthquakes of 25 April. and 12 May 2015, UMN has set up a Disaster Response Programme (DRP) to assist the people of Dhading to rebuild their lives. It consists of three projects in each of two geographical. areas of Dhading, one in the North and one in the South. The projects are concerned with reconstruction, livelihood and social/environmental needs, and focuses on the poorest people in the target VDCs.

Position : Engineering and Construction Officer based in Dhading Besi

The main purpose of this post is to plan, communicate, supervise the selection of beneficiaries and monitor all construction works of Dhading Response Programme, particularly in rural. locations as part of the overall DR plan. The post-holder will report directly to the DR Construction Project Manager and will be part of the Construction Project Team.

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • 4 years Bachelor's degree in Civil. Engineering or in relevant subject with 2-3 years post qualification construction experience;
  • Experience of working in rural. settings, preferably with earthquake resilient construction;
  • Knowledge and ability in community mobilisation methodologies;
  • Good networking, facilitation, training, coaching and mentoring skills;
  • Proficient language and communication skills in both Nepali and English.
